About The Children’s Place
The Children’s Place was founded in Hartford, Connecticut in 1969 by David Pulver and Clinton Clark. They started selling toys, clothing, and accessories before deciding that clothing had the greatest potential for growth. In the early 1980s Children’s Place changed its name to a store specializing in children’s clothing for babies and teens, and began offering private label and branded products. Jane Elpers has been President and CEO since 2010. Jane quickly developed four Strategic Growth Initiatives for the company to maximize our long-term potential: a great product, technology-driven business transformation, alternative distribution channels, and fleet optimization . To support our key strategic initiatives, Jane has also created a world-class management team and a foundation of operational excellence. The success of these four strategic growth initiatives has transformed The Children’s Place from what it was to the North American brick and mortar retailer when Jane arrived, into the world-class Omni Channel baby products retailer that we are today. In 2019, The Children’s Place acquired the rights to the Gymboree brand, and in early 2020 launched the product in select stores and online. This iconic brand has a striking design in playful collections that celebrate childhood and help families look their best on any occasion. Together, these two brands embrace the children we love and inspire them to live, learn, and love their childhood.
